英语中有许多副词或副词短语虽然词形上相同或相似，但其意义却大相径庭。因此，在平时学习中应该特别留神，切不可望文生义，现举例如下：
1. I think they treated us fairly.
我认为他们对待我们是公正的。
Some of the photos are fairly good.
有几张照片拍得相当不错。
2. I can’t see clearly without my glasses.
不戴眼镜我看不清楚。
We clearly need to think again.
我们显然需要重新考虑。
3. Her heart beat fast.
她的心跳得很快。
The baby was fast asleep.
那婴儿睡得很香。
4. So far I haven’t been to Hong Kong.
到目前为止我还没去过香港。
He lives so far that you’d better drive there.
他住得很远，你最好开车去那儿。
5. The mother as well as her three children was taken to hospital.
不但三个孩子，就连妈妈也被送进医院了。
He speaks Japanese as well as English.

6. He walked as far as the beach.
