One day, a Frenchman went to visit his English friend. When he came up to his friend's house, a big dog ran out and began to bark at him. The Frenchman was frightened and stopped. At that moment the Englishman came out and saw his friend. “ Don't be afraid! ” he said. “ Don't you know the proverb ‘ Barking dogs don't bite ' ? ”

　　一天，一个法国人去拜访一位英国朋友。当他来到朋友家时，一条大狗窜出来对他狂吠。这个法国人很害怕，就不敢再往前走了。这时，那个英国人出来，看见了他的朋友。“别害怕！”他说，“你不知道有名谚语叫‘吠犬不咬人吗'？”
