This afternoon, David Lynn, our American friend, paid a visit to our class. Upon his arrival, he received a warm welcome from us. He gave us a very interesting talk and answered us many questions about the United States. After that, we had a good time singing some English songs together. Then he was shown around our school yard, which impressed him deeply. And we also played table tennis. In fact, we had a game. He played fairly well. When school was over, we had to say goodbye to him. But he was glad to accept our invitation to our class again.

To meet the needs for more English speakers to communicate with native English speakers, Beijingers are taking an active part in learning English after Beijing has been awarded the 2008 Olympic Games. Eight years ago, when Mr Smith, a Canadian, came to Beijing for the first time, Beijingers ,most of whom spoke only Chinese, couldn't understand him when he spoke English. Now, he finds, many Beijingers, including taxi drivers, shop assistants and even policemen, can speak very good English. Many people are attending English classes in their spare time. Mr Smith is very glad to see this and he is sure to 2008 Olympic Games can be held in Beijing successfully.

Keeping a Diary
Bei Bei is a primary school student. One Saturday, he was about to go out and play when he remembered he had to write a diary as his homework. He felt unhappy and thought, “Why do I have to do it every day? There is nothing to write about at all sometimes.”
Suddenly Bei Bei heard a loud noise. “What was it?” He went to the kitchen quickly, where the noise came from, and found out what was the matter. He was glad that he had something to write at last.
He quickly went to the table and started writing. “Mother has broken another bowl today. Ha!...”
