国家级示范性普通高中 江苏省常熟中学原名国立第二中学，在抗日战争时期的1938年，创办于四川合川。抗日战争胜利后，于1946年移址常熟，江更名为苏省立常熟中学。1953年定名为江苏省常熟中学。1990年通过省教委验收，确认为首批合格重点高中，1998年学校迁入新址，2000年，被省教委确认为国家级示范性普通高中。学校被评为“江苏省模范学校”，“省级文明单位”，成为常熟市精神文明建设的窗口。 江苏省常熟中学为适应未来、实施新科技革命、发展知识经济对高素质人才的需要，明确了跨世纪的办学目标，要建成达到发达国家现代化水平的、具有鲜明办学特色的、在全国有一定影响的国家级示范性普通高中。学校按照现代化教育的要求，确立适应现代化教育的办学思想：确立学校一切工作以学生为主体的思想；确立教学为中心，质量是根本的思想；确立全面实施素质教育的思想；确立全心全意依靠教职员工的思想。学校顺应世界教育改革的走向，从建设符合自身特点和时代需要的课程体系上形成了鲜明的特色：环境课程蕴涵了丰富的人文教育内涵；学科课程体现了全面提高学生综合素质的要求；活动课程为促进学生主动发展和个性发展创造了广阔的空间。学校形成了“明理实学”的校风，“自学、自治、自强”的学风、“严谨、创新、奉献”的教风。学校建成了一支有4名特级教师、15名苏州市和常熟市学科教改带头人，中高级职称占80%的教师队伍。目前，学校教学楼、办公楼、图书馆、电教实验楼、体育馆、艺术馆及文化长廊、食堂、学生公寓楼群各具风格；庭院、广场、雕塑、小品、花园、草坪等配制合理；理化生实验室、计算机教室、软件制作中心、多媒体阅览室、体育训练及艺术教育设施堪称一流；在报告厅、电化教室、理化生实验室、史地专用教室、计算机教室等处还配备了大屏幕、实物投影仪、多媒体教学设备；用于管理和教学的计算机宽带校园网已经建成，现代化教育技术成为学校教育改革、提高质量的物质保证。在六十多年的办学历史中，学校积淀了丰富的人文基础，形成了优良的教育传统。学校已毕业的3.5万多名学生，分布在国内外，许多已成为国家政治、外交、经济、科技、教育、文学、艺术、体育等方面的杰出人才，其中科学院和工程院院士15名。学校还与日本鹿儿岛县立川内高等学校和澳大利亚南澳洲三位一体学院分别建立了友好交往关系。江苏省常熟中学正面向未来，进行更具有前瞻性、整体性的改革，努力开辟通向新世纪的成功之路。

江苏省模范中学 The original name of Jiangsu Province Changshu High School was National No.2 Middle School. It was established in 1938 in Hechuan County, Sichuan Province, during the War of Resistance against Japan. In 1946, with victory achieved, the school was mobbed to Changshu County, Jiangsu Province, and was renamed Jiangsu Provincial Changshu Middle School. Its present name, Jiangsu Province Changshu High School, dates from 1953. In 1990, the Jiangsu Provincial Education Commission nominated the school as a key senior middle school and in 1998; the school was relocated to its present site in Kuncheng Road East. In 2000, the school was rewarded "Model School" and "Civilized Unit" status at the Provincial level and achieved the high distinction of being designated as a demonstration National Senior High school. With this history and with these achievements behind it, it is hardly surprising that the school should now be regarded as being in the vanguard of Changshu City's efforts to play an active part in China's national quest to fashion herself as a truly spiritual civilization.The school is keenly aware that it must make a positive contribution to the nation's response to the demands placedplaced upon modern society by the revolutions in science and technology. To this end, therefore, it aims to produce graduates of the highest quality who are well-equipped to contribute to the knowledge economy. It hopes to do this in such a way as to establish itself as one of China's leading secondary educational institutions with standards equal to those of even the most developed countries.The school is committed to providing students with an all-round education of the highest quality based on real-life learning. Laboratories, computer classrooms, Physics, Chemistry and Biology laboratories, and specialist centers for History, Geography and Computing are all equipped with large screens and such state-of-the-art projection equipment and other multimedia devices as are appropriate to them. A broad-band computer network for teaching and management has been established in the confident belief that modern educational technology can promote on-going improvement in the quality of the educational provision offered by this great High School.In the 60 and more years that have passed since 938, solid foundations for the education of tomorrow's leaders anda set of sound traditions have been laid. The number of the school's graduates who have taken their places in modern china is more than 35,000. these graduates are now to be found both at home and abroad.
