　　一 . 概念
　　
　　过去将来时表示相对于过去某一时刻而言即将发生的动作或存在的状态。例如：
　　
　　I didn't know if the Greens would come.
　　
　　我不知道格林一家是否会来。
　　
　　二 . 构成
　　
　　过去将来时由“助动词 would 或 should+ 动词原形”构成（ should 用于第一人称， would 用于各种人称），也可以用“ was / were going to + 动词原形”构成。例如：
　　
　　He said that the meeting would begin at half past nine.
　　
　　他说会议将在九点半开始。
　　
　　She said she was going to speak at the meeting.
　　
　　她说她将在会上发言。
　　
　　过去将来时除了用“ would 或 should + 动词原形”和“ was / were going to + 动词原形”表示外，还可用其它的形式来表示。
　　
　　1. go, come, leave, arrive, start, return 等动词的过去进行时可表示过去将来时。例如：
　　
　　I didn't know they were coming.
　　
　　我并不知道他们要来。
　　
　　2. “ was / were about to + 动词原形”表示过去将来时。例如：
　　
　　This afternoon I was just about to go swimming when luckily our guide saw me and shouted at me, “ Stop! Don't swim! ”
　　
　　今天下午我正要下水去游泳，这时幸亏我们的向导看到了我，对我大声喊道：“站住！别游泳！”
　　
　　3. 在时间和条件状语从句中用一般过去时表示过去将来时。例如：
　　
　　He wanted to be a scientist when he grew up.
　　
　　他想长大了当个科学家。
　　
　　I asked what you would think of him if he failed.
　　
　　我问你要是他失败了你会怎样看他。
　　
　　三 . 用法
　　
　　1. 过去将来时常用于主句是一般过去时的宾语从句中。例如：
　　
　　My brother told me that he would be back on Sunday.
　　
　　我哥哥告诉我他星期日回来。
　　
　　The teacher asked me if we were going to watch the game.
　　
　　老师问我们是否去看比赛。
　　
　　2. 单独使用，过去时间通过上下文表示出来。例如：
　　
　　It was August. The autumn harvest would begin very soon.
　　
　　那是八月份，秋收很快就要开始了。
　　
　　3. “ was / were going to + 动词原形”也可以表示未能实现的动作或状态。例如：
　　
　　Last Sunday we were going to go for a picnic but it rained.
　　
　　上周日我们打算去野餐，但天下起雨来。
