June 4th Thursday Rainy
This afternoon, when I walked out of the school, the weather changed. Dark clouds were gathering. I began to feel worried because I didn't have either my raincoat or my umbrella with me. It soon started to rain. Just as I was hurrying home, I heard someone calling me from behind. I turned round and saw it was Li Ping. He had an umbrella with him and offered to share it with him. He walked all the way with me to my home. If it had not been for Li Ping, I would have got wet through. How thankful I was for his kindness!

I was just going to the school when I saw a thick smoke coming from a house across the street not far from me. In a hurry I returned home and phoned the police station at once. Then I ran out of the door and down the stairs into the street. Together with father I rushed towards the fire to put it out. Before long the fire engines came and the fire went out immediately with the help of the firemen and the neighbours there. After that I went to school. Having heard what I explained, my teacher praised me for my heroic deeds.

June 1, Saturday Fine
Today Li Hong and I went to Shanghai Zoo. It is about 5 kilometres away from our school. At 8:30 a.m., we went to take the No. 17 bus, and twenty minutes later, we arrived there.
There were many people in the zoo: children led by their parents, students, workers and many foreigners as well.
There , in the zoo, we saw many kinds of animals, such as elephants, bears, lions, monkeys and birds. Among them, we like the monkeys best. They climbed up the tree, jumped from branch to branch, and stood on their heads just to make people laugh.
At 12 o'clock we arrived home. We had a very good time.
